5km Radius
To encourage more people to visit local clubs, the 5km membership rule, which required residents living within a 5km radius to become members, has been lifted by the NSW government. Clubs can now keep or remove the 5km rule until 31 December 2025 (without the need to amend the club’s constitution) at their discretion.
Previously under the 5km rule, residents who lived within 5km of the club were required to become a member or sign in to the club with an existing member.
The Oak Flats Bowling Club and Illawarra Yacht Club has decided to also temporarily pause the rule as well, pending review, and possible changes to the club constitution in the future.
Should patrons choose not to join the club as a member, they will still be required to sign in as a visitor as usual.
If your membership is currently suspended and/or the board has not approved reinstatement of your membership, you cannot enter.
We do still encourage our regular visitors to become members, but until further notice, and subject to above, membership is currently not compulsory.

Notice Regarding Culture
Maintaining a positive culture for all
A respectful and supportive environment is fundamental to the success of our clubs, and we must be unwavering in our commitment to uphold these standards. Tolerance for abusive behaviour undermines the values we promote and can have detrimental effects on our community and operations. Therefore, we must take a firm stance against such conduct, ensuring that all members/guests understand that respect and professionalism are non-negotiable traits that contribute to the positive culture we strive to maintain.
By fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect, we can protect the well-being of our staff, and directors and create a thriving environment for all members and guests.
“The Board acknowledges that any disrespectful behaviour directed towards staff, management, directors, or fellow members and guests is unacceptable. Therefore, we hereby re-affirm that such conduct will not be tolerated. Members found in violation of this policy will face suspension or revocation of their membership, in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Constitution. Guests who violate this policy will be promptly escorted from the premises and prohibited from returning”
Yours sincerely,
The Board of Directors
